Teacher's Day: Raison D'Etré

Today marks an important day in Our Lives.

We pay homage to the Educationist and the former President of our nation, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, on the occasion of his Birthday, today.

All my colleagues who are ,who were and who will be, Teachers/ Educators.

Why do we celebrate Teacher's Day?

Perhaps, we don't have anything else to offer to our Teacher, other than mere platitudes and sweet words..?

As a token of Our Appreciation; to exercise political correctness, fulsome praise, embellished with wordy gems...!

Perhaps, this is enough... at least for those who are heaping ENCOMIUMS; never mind if its equally so for the recipients!

The social structure is designed to cater to the affluent, the powerful; the ambitious, go getters, the successful and the famous, who're social networking experts.

Wealth  and Power are buzz words of the elite. The tribe is inclusive : Corporate Czars, Media Moguls, Financial Whizzes, Creative Heads, Artistic Prima Donnas: the
Big Brigade representative of Socioeconomic Boom.

Teachers, are perceived as dependent on the goodwill of the institutions they serve and beneath those whose progeny they teach, Mentor and groom.

Underpaid, stereotyped,  disrespected and TAKEN FOR GRANTED... This is the REALITY of Teachers, per se, in contemporary  times! In India and abroad,  as well.

Case in point, the Indian Central Government's directive of the revised policy on compensation has not yet been implemented, across the Board.

Education is expensive, more than ever, but remuneration for Teachers is not in accordance with the CG'S commission.

Ironical MUCH...!

Private Schools and Institutions operate in a more diabolical fashion.
They ostensibly, run along the lines of corporate organizations, with a tight structure and 'Water tight' hierarchical Systems.

The  CTC, however, is not in accordance or at par with the corporate sector.
Attrition rates are an All time high,
The Need for QT- Qualified Teachers, also.

Yet, no pay parity, no streamlining the Systems,
no conducive environment for career progression and growth.

The national syllabus of Indian Schools has not undergone a radical change in the last two decades.

Ground Reality check:

If Teachers were really ineffectual, dependent, and 'beneath' those whom they serve, our society would be ethically, culturally and intellectually defunct, by now.

Albert Einstein said :

"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind, a faithful servant. We have created a society which honours the servant, and has forgotten the gift."

This, then is the case with Teachers, across the Globe:

They are the "Forgotten Gift".

 Happy Teacher's Day!! 🙏
